The team behind Canterbury and Akari Care Groups have an enviable track record in management within the care home industry. Recognising the benefit of a review of water costs across the combined estate of 50 properties, they received recommendation from colleagues of the services of Water Management Solutions (UK) Ltd (WMS), a specialist with considerable experience in water billing analysis, cost recovery, leak detection and conservation covering a wide variety of both public and private sector organisations throughout the UK.
Following instruction, WMS initiated their review in April 2013. The structured analysis utilised billing and site data to reveal any incorrect charges, and highlighted potential issues with tariffs and consumption levels at certain sites. WMS then submitted claims against the incorrect charges and in conjunction with the Property Services team and the sites in question, completed engineering surveys and co-ordinated the investigations.
WMS’s expertise proved invaluable, delivering rebates and savings from 4 different water companies across a range of tariff structures. Their site profiling and benchmarking exercise demonstrated a clear understanding of water usage on the sites, identifying the potential for leakage, and managing the detection and repair process.
The holistic approach of WMS has also promoted the value of water conservation, identifying meter locations to allow regular checks and highlighting the opportunity for flow regulation through tighter specifications, and delivered a further annual saving through negotiating and switching water supply companies for the group’s Scottish sites.

A water audit review was undertaken by Water Management Solutions (WMS) on our site, we took advantage of the "no win no fee" basis.
After providing WMS with copies of water bills, they looked in detail at charges we were paying on our monthly invoices to our water supplier, checking consumption, current and historic charges, suitability of tariffs and carried out a site visit as part of the process.
The process revealed that we had been over charged £5800 per annum, what was really shocking these overcharges had been in place since October 2013. WMS's expertise resulted in the removal of all overcharges, the refund we received in the form of a cheque from the water company was great news. More importantly in the removal of these overcharges we will be saving £5800 every year on our water bills. A brilliant result.

Respondez Europe Ltd is a contact centre in Hartlepool, managing a wide variety of communications activities, from inbound customer service and support, to outbound sales activity, and offer a range of traditional services, across multiple contact channels and languages, to provide a 'one stop shop' for a fully managed business process outsourcing service.
While actively managing our other utility costs, we had not challenged our water costs which had seen only gradual increases over the years, based on the annual tariff increases from the water company. We were then recommended to consider the services of Water Management Solutions
(WMS), water cost reduction specialists helping many organisations across the UK to obtain refunds and reduce on-going water and sewerage costs. As they work on a fair "no win, no fee" basis with good references and reputation, we had nothing to lose and retained their services.
Upon instruction, WMS completed a thorough review of our billing, historic consumption and operational activities, which quickly identified a potential error in our tariff, along with higher than expected consumption on one of our metered supplies. Site investigations by their engineers and in conjunction with our maintenance staff confirmed both the tariff overcharge and internal wastage. The internal wastage was quickly rectified and is on course to save over £1500 per annum, and following negotiations with the water company, correcting the tariff over charge resulted in a reduction of a further £4,000 in our annual water costs.
What was really shocking was that this overcharge had been in place for many years, and acknowledging WMS's claim, the water company refunded over £30,000!
To say we are pleased with the results of WMS's work is an understatement. This has been hugely beneficial, and has been carried out in a thorough and professional manner, using a minimum of our resource but giving us a significant windfall, a reduction in our on-going operating costs, and valuable understanding of our water costs. Through Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council we were included in a water audit that the council carried out with Water Management Solutions (WMS). Any savings that could be made would be welcomed by
the school.
WMS looked in detail at charges we were paying on our monthly invoices to our water supplier, checking consumption, current and historic charges, suitability of tariffs and efficiency measures, and carried out two site visits as part of this process.
Their investigations identified an error in our tariff that had been in place for many years, building up a significant overcharge. After a long negotiation with the water company, they eventually acknowledged their mistake, which resulted in a huge windfall for the school worth over £100k! The work also meant that our future annual costs would be reduced by approximately £10k.
We had no idea that our water charges were based on incorrect tariffs, and accepted our bills as accurate actual costs so without the specialist knowledge and tenacity of WMS we would still be paying too much. The money we have had back was an extremely welcome bonus, particularly in the current climate of challenging education funding.
